SALINE TATTOO REMOVAL FAQS

WHAT IS SALINE TATTOO REMOVAL?

It is the removal or lightening of unwanted tattoo’s and permanent makeup use of a specially formulated saline solution by Botched Ink® and a digital tattoo machine. The technician will go over the tattoo in the same method the tattoo was applied however, this time, instead of ink, Botched Ink® saline solution is implanted into the skin.

When Botched Ink® is implanted into skin, the area quickly dries out.  If the skin contains tattoo pigment this will dry out too, lifting and removing the pigment during the skins natural healing process.  Treated skin forms a dried-out scab during healing, and during treatments you’ll see the scab containing some of the tattoo pigment.

BOTCHED INK SALINE REMOVAL VERSUS LASER REMOVAL

This method of removal is much safer and gentler method than laser as it i s an all-natural and FDA approved solution allowing the area to be able to be re-tattooed again after the skin heals. This method should be considered before resorting to laser removal.

Laser removal may cause the following issues:

  • Risk of scarring

  • Cannot remove skin stains caused by certain pigments with iron oxides

  • Works well on black pigments but poorly on other colours including red, green,  yellow and white that makes up the colour brown

  • Pigment changes after laser making it deeper and harder to remove

BENEFITS TO USING BOTCHED INK SALINE REMOVAL SOLUTION?

  • Gentle during treatment:  Botched Ink® pH closely resembles healthy skin, meaning only a mild sting which disappears very quickly.  The formula includes Aloe Vera which really helps the solution soak into the skin, without needing to over traumatize you or your skin

  • Quickly dries skin, forming a thin scab:  Skin treated with Botched Ink® starts to dry out within the first few hours.  For you this means minimal inflammation and associated risk of scarring, plus minimal risk of infection

  • Tattoos can look better during healing:  Many clients worry what they’ll look like during healing, the answer when using Botched Ink® is the treated area usually looks better.  Unwanted grey or orange brows will look shades of brown during the healing process, so you’re likely to get complimented on your new eyebrows for a few days !

  • After 48 hours clients can shower and use aftercare:  When treated skin is fully dried you can begin using the prescribed aftercare serum, this makes scabbing and healing more pleasant

WHY CHOOSE BOTCHED INK SALINE REMOVAL?

  1. Minimal irritation and minimal inflammation = minimal risk of scarring

  2. Effective on skin stains and colours besides black that make up brown (ie. red, white, yellow, and green)

  3. Botched Ink® has been formulated specifically to dry out skin quickly.  There is minimal chance for the body’s inflammation and irritation response to begin. The scab will be thin and dry, not thick, damp or inflamed.

HOW MANY SESSIONS ARE REQUIRED?

Results will vary depending on, but not limited to; your skin condition, health profile, ability to heal well, the type and colour of the pigment to be lightened, depth of pigment placement, technique used and compliance with aftercare instructions

It’s good to begin the removal process on a tattoo that’s as fresh or new as possible. If a tattoo is less than 2 months old the pigment has not fully encapsulated in the skin, and if less than a year there will be minimal skin stain. This may require 3 sessions.

If the area has had several sessions of tattooing  (3 times or more), the skin will be more saturated with pigment molecules and skin stain if iron oxide pigment was used (poor quality, poor blend or poor colour choice). New pigment on top of old deep or saturated pigment, will lift off first revealing the older pigment. This may require a minimum of 3 sessions.

WHAT IS THE REMOVAL PROCESS LIKE?

  • Removing, improving or lightening pigment is a process which may take several sessions.

  • Mature or saturated tattoos may initially respond slowly

  • After 3 treatments we’ll have a better idea how easily the pigment is removing.

  • Pigment may look darker before it gets lighter, especially if it was implanted deeply

  • Pigment that’s closer to the surface removes easier

  • Brown pigment is made up of black, white, yellow, red and green. Black pigment usually removes first, making other colours more visible Grey brows may look browner, or warmer colours may begin to show.

  • Tattoo removal is a process with many variables, therefore how much pigment is removed during each visit, or how many visits are needed, cannot be known or guaranteed

WHAT IF I AM PRONE TO SKIN HYPER-PIGMENTATION?

  • For those prone to hyper-pigmentation, follow ‘First 48 hours’ advice. After 48 hours the scab and surrounding skin must NOT be allowed to dry out or hyper-pigmentation can occur.

  • Re-apply Cavilon cream every 2 or 3 days until skin until skin returns to a normal colour

WHAT IF I MAY BE  ALLERGIC TO BOTCHED INK?

If you think you may become allergic to Botched Ink saline solution, a patch test will be required before the procedure?

WILL IT BE PAINFUL?

Topical numbing cream will be applied 20 minutes prior to the start of the removal process. Throughout most of the procedure the pain level will be mild to none. There will be some short mild stinging when the saline solution penetrates trough the skin but will dissipate rapidly.

HOW SOON CAN I RECEIVE MY NEXT SALINE REMOVAL SESSION OR BE RE-TATTOOED?

  • Course of 3 treatments are recommended to be booked initially to assess ease of pigment removal

  • 1st  treatment --> 2nd treatment - 8 weeks after 1st treatment ---> 3rd treatment - 8weeks after 2nd treatment ---> 4th treatment - 12 weeks after 3rd treatment

  • We leave a longer time in between each treatment  if the skin has not returned to a normal colour

  • Once the satisfactory amount of pigments have been lifted and you would like to be tattooed again, you must wait 4 months from the last saline removal session to no interfere with the results of the new tattoo.

WHAT TO DO FOR THE FIRST 48 HOURS AFTER SALINE REMOVAL TREATMENT?

  • Any redness surrounding the treated area subsides within an hour or two Redness within the treated area becomes brown as the skin dries out. The treated area must be allowed to fully dry out over the next  48 hours. For most people the area is touch dry within the first few hours.

  • Only touch with very clean hands, ideally no touching for 48 hours. If the skin is not allowed to dry out quickly you will not get the best results.

  • Do not use any other aftercare products during this initial drying out phase Do not the area wet or sweaty for 48 hours For lip liner treatments, during this phase keep movements small and to a minimum

WHAT TO DO FOR THE AFTER THE FIRST 48 HOURS AFTER SALINE REMOVAL TREATMENT?

  • The treated area is now very dry, and a light scab will have formed.  You may see pigment visible in the scab.

  • Apply Cavilon barrier cream on and slightly around the scab . Apply for up to 4 days, this will leave a soft film over the scab.

  •  You can get the area a little wet when washing and showering, avoid rubbing the area. After any wetness, gently hold a clean tissue on the scab to dry it out.

  • Do not  excessively wet the area, no swimming and etc..., while the scab is on.

  • Depending on the area treated, the scab will remain firmly attached for 5 to 14 days

  • Excessive movements are likely to crack the scab, which is not ideal for easy healing

  • Do not attempt to remove the scabs

Individuals prone to hyper-pigmentation must ensure the skin around the healing area does not dry out. This will mean using Cavilon cream more often so the area does not dry out. Individuals with darker skin tones (brown to black) it’s advisable to use a rich oil on the skin after the scab has healed off, such as Shea butter.

WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT ATER THE SCABS FALLS OFF?

  • The pigment may look visibly lighter or different for the first 1-8 weeks. These are not considered the true results, as your skin healing is still healing and the remaining pigment are still settling

  • Can begin using makeup on the area if desired

  • Treat the area gently, no exfoliating or excessive sun exposure
