  • Limit the amount of caffeine you consume the morning of your appointment.

  • Do not have any chemical peels, dermabrasions, mesotherapy, or any other intense treatments which will cause faster skin cell rejuvenating and cause skin irritation 3-4 weeks before procedure.

  • If you have been treated with Accutane in the past, you MUST wait at least one year before considering this procedure.

HISTORY OF COLD SORES

* If you have a history of cold sores in the past, it is highly recommended you consult with your physician prior to the appointment for an anti-viral prescription (ex. Valtrex).  This procedure can cause a re-activation of cold sores. At the first sign of an a cold sore outbreak,  treatment must begin within a 72h window or else the medication will not be as effective.

* Lysine supplements may be able to help with the prevention and treatment of cold sores.

* Lysine ointment and Abreva may also be used alongside the treatment options stated above.

AFTERCARE

  • There will be moderate swelling for up to 48 hours.

  • Total healing time will be approximately  3 to 5 days.

  • A moisturizing ointment will be provided to you and will be expected to drink lots of water and keep your lips as moisturized as possible with the ointment until the healing process is complete.

  • Avoid makeup, tanning, swimming, excessing sweating, sauna, kissing.

  • Avoid spicy and citrus food for the first 2 days.

  • Drink through a straw as much as possible until healed.

  • Slight stinging sensation or soreness in the first few days is also normal.

  • Apply a Ziploc bag filled with water and ice for no more than 15 minutes at a time to reduce swelling.

  • During the initial healing period, there should be minimal scabbing or flaking of the skin. If there is scabbing or flaking, do not pick, and allow the scab or dry skin to come off on its own.

  • Expect the colour to eventually lighten by up to 40%-50% once the healing process is complete.

  • Colour may appear uneven at different stages of healing. Be patient. This is a process that does not yield immediate results. The true result will be seen at week 6.

* A follow-up touch-up is usually necessary and can be completed any time after 8 weeks from the initial appointment.
